Effective June 21st, 2021, Ontario Works has a new way to apply for assistance directly to the Ontario government.
Persons in financial need can apply online by visiting www.ontario.ca/socialassistance
You may also call Toll Free 1-888-999-1142, or TTY 1-800-387-5559.
When applying, you will need to answer questions about yourself and the family members in their household.
You will also need the following information:
- Birth certificate
- Social Insurance Number (SIN) card
- Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card
- Immigration or sponsorship information if applicable
- Full address including postal code
- Cost of rent or mortgage
- Cost of utilities (gas, hydro, water)
- Current landlord’s name and address
- Address history for the past 12 months
- Employment history for the past 24 months
- Most recent monthly bank statement
- Any sources of income (i.e. Earnings from EI, CERB, CPP, OAS)
- Assets (vehicle, RRSP's, etc.)
Applications meeting the following criteria will be completed by the local office and may still -> Apply Online or to call 705-759-2130 / 1-866-363-6007
- Youth Application - Under the age of 18
- Newcomers or Sponsored Immigrants
- Require Translator or Trustee
- Being released from incarceration
- Temp Care Applications - An adult providing temporary care for a child who’s in financial need and is not their dependent
- In an Emergency, defined as:
- being evicted from home or homeless
- worried about personal safety
- in an abusive relationship
- affected by fire or flood
- have health crisis
