The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board is searching for an enthusiastic and innovative individuals to join our team based in Sault Ste. Marie as temporary Employment Coordinators within the Ontario Works division. The primary function of the Employment Coordinator, Ontario Works is to provide individual and group employment assessment, counseling, referrals, placement services for the purpose of improving the employability of clients to access sustainable employment opportunities. Work with service providers, local business and the non-profit sector to secure training and employment opportunities for clients.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Provide assessment of client employability
• Identify, develop and implement training programs as required.
• Identify employment barriers and challenges to pursuit of gainful employment
• Work collaboratively with ongoing client case managers and to help identify and develop a realistic employment plan for their participation agreement that addresses the barriers to employment.
• Identify internal and external resources to assist the client in working towards improved employability
• Initiate and follow up on internal and external referrals for clients
• Arrange for appropriate employment related supports for the client and input necessary information into the computer system.
• Perform regular monitoring of the progress of the client in approved employment related activities.
• Record participation, progress or challenges experienced by the client in addressing employment barriers while they are involved in approved programs.
• Regular case conferencing with the case manager and other service providers involved with providing employment programming to client group.
• Work collaboratively with other community employment service providers on referrals and job placement opportunities.
• Develop and deliver information sessions to clients, and public awareness sessions for nonprofit organizations, other employment service providers, community agencies, employers, and other business sector organizations.
• Administer the wage subsidy program with employers

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate in an effective and tactful manner, contribute routinely as a team member, organize time to maximize contribution and possess a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment. Additional qualifications for this position include:

• Community College in a related discipline; and
• Minimum two (2) years direct experience within Social Services field
• Self-motivated with the ability to work little supervision
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Proficiency in both official languages is an asset
