Reporting to the Manager of Early Years, the Early Childhood Assistant assists in the provision of high quality, licensed child care programming and supervision to children ages 0-12, in accordance with all operational policies and procedures and the Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Early Years Division philosophy.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Provide age appropriate programming that meets the diverse needs of all children and promotes optimum physical, emotional, social, cognitive and intellectual development of the children in care
• Participate in the development of and help to implement both indoor and outdoor programming daily, based on emergent curriculum, the changing needs and interests of the individual children enrolled and the Ministry of Education’s document How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
• Oversee children at all times and monitor the on-going health, safety and well-being of all children in the program
• Apply directives related to child behavior management consistently to provide appropriate limits and positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviour
• Administer emergency first aid as required
• Assist in maintaining the learning environment, ensuring cleanliness, as well as an orderly and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Arrange material and furnishings on a daily basis in preparation for scheduled programming
• Ensure positive communication with families through regular verbal and written/virtual contact regarding the program
• Adhere to and practice all emergency planning policies and procedures
• Work with minimal supervision and demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making and personal conduct. Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Work as part of a team and demonstrates commitment, pride and trust, in the accomplishment of team goals
• Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, local policies and practices relating to a healthy workplace
• Participate in continuous professional learning to integrate knowledge and test theories from research and experiences to deepen understanding of children and families
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team in a fast-paced environment, organize time effectively and perform duties of the position, and work with minimal direct supervision. Additional qualifications for this position include:

• Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) and 6 months direct experience educating children in a formal educational setting i.e.(child care, school board)
• College diploma in field related to the education of children an asset
• Valid Standard First Aid Level C an asset
