The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board is searching for Platoon Superintendents to join our Paramedic Services team based in Sault Ste. Marie. Reporting to the Deputy Chiefs of Paramedic Services, the Platoon Superintendent is a key member of the Paramedic Services management team responsible for the supervision, training, and performance management of paramedics on their assigned platoon. This role ensures efficient operations, high standards of patient care, and compliance with organizational and medical directives.

Some of the key duties and responsibilities include:

Leadership and Management
• Lead and manage paramedics within the assigned platoon to ensure effective, efficient, and motivated team operations.
• Promote a high-performance culture aligned with quality patient care.
• Backfill Commander vacancies.

Training and Development
• Develop and deliver ongoing training for paramedics, including coordinating with Field Training Officers (FTOs).
• Collaborate with Deputy Chiefs to create orientation programs for new hires and students.
• Remain current on medical directives and advancements.

Quality Assurance and Compliance
• Conduct audits and reviews to ensure adherence to patient care standards.
• Identify improvement areas and collaborate with Deputy Chief, Commander, paramedics, and Union to implement appropriate training plans.

Performance Evaluation and Feedback
• Evaluate Field Training Officers, paramedics, and students, offering feedback, mentorship, and support.
• Conduct performance appraisals and assist in career development planning.
• Develop and deliver driver training and evaluations when necessary.

Scheduling
• Manage scheduling functions including annual planning, leave approvals, and vacancy coverage.

Hiring
• Participate in recruitment activities such as program planning, candidate evaluation, resume screening, and referrals.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in training, development, and delivery, alongside proficiency in scheduling and personnel management systems. A deep understanding of Paramedic Services protocols, medical directives, and compliance standards is essential. Excellent organizational capabilities are required to plan and manage multiple demands efficiently, coupled with analytical and problem-solving skills for handling research-related tasks. The successful candidate will also be adept at multitasking, managing challenging situations, and working within tight timelines, along with proficiency in performance management and evaluation techniques. Additional qualifications for this position include:

• Primary or Advanced Care Paramedic certification, with authorization to perform delegated acts under a Base Hospital or equivalent healthcare/management background.
• Valid certification and license as required by regulatory bodies.
• Five (5) years of experience in Paramedic Services or a related healthcare environment. Previous supervisory responsibilities are a strong asset.
• Demonstrated experience in training, evaluation, and operations oversight.

District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board offers a competitive compensation package, extensive benefit and pension programs, and a 35-hour work week.

Salary Range: $108,449-$117,888
Job Class: Non-Union JC 6
Job Type: Full-Time – Rotational shift – 42 hours per week
