Building Skills for Future Success
As part of Ontario Works (OW) requirements, program participants are expected to actively work toward employment and greater independence through education, training, and skill-building opportunities. These supports are designed to help participants develop new skills, explore career pathways, and connect with programs that support long-term success. Below are some of the training and education programs available to OW participants.
Learning, Earning, & Parenting Program (LEAP)
LEAP helps OW participants develop parenting skills, complete high school, and prepare for employment. The program provides access to a variety of supports and resources, including daycare, supplies, fees, counselling, parenting classes, and other incentives.

This program is offered in partnership with Holy Angels Learning Centre and Algoma Family Services.
Building Maintenance & Construction Program (BMC)
BMC is a free, 10-week training initiative that helps participants gain in-demand construction skills and certifications while renovating a home through our Affordable Home Ownership Program (AHOP).
Crews work with an experienced instructor on the renovation, from demolition to finishing work, including health and safety fundamentals, construction site roles and responsibilities, and basic construction and renovation techniques.
Participants are provided tools, course material, and cost of certificates/training fees are covered.
Childcare support may also be available. Please reach out if this is a barrier.
