Supporting Housing Stability Across the District

The Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation (SSMHC) was established in 2001 following the provincial download of social housing administration to local service managers.

Today, it is the largest provider of Community Housing in Sault Ste. Marie. The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB or DSSAB) is the sole shareholder of SSMHC and serves as the Service Manager.

Community Housing 

DSSAB plays a key role in supporting and managing community housing initiatives, which includes:

• Units owned and operated directly by SSMHC
• Non-profit and co-operative housing providers

We also administer and deliver homelessness programs, manage the centralized waitlist for subsidized housing, and support non-profit and co-operative housing providers.

All community housing and tenancy operations are governed by key legislation, including the Housing Services Act, 2011 and the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006.
