The YMCA of Sault Ste. Marie, DSSAB, and Sault College have partnered to develop a new child care centre at the Sault College campus that will provide 80 licensed daycare spaces. The centre is expected to open in spring 2026 and will include spaces for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children under the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program.

The project was developed in response to increasing demand for licensed child care and will help support families by improving access to affordable care. Community leaders note that expanding child care capacity not only benefits children and families but also supports workforce participation, household stability, and long-term economic growth throughout the region.
