This week, the DSSAB board will be presented with detailed design plans for the single-storey base.
The proposed floor plan includes a bay that will accommodate up to three ambulances, offices, a kitchen and lounge, gym and laundry area, among other amenities.
The Sault Ste. Marie Paramedic Services currently deploy ambulances from Fire Station No. 1 on Tancred Street, the Regional Emergency Services Complex on Old Garden River Road and from a base in Garden River First Nation, along with a satellite station at the Goulais River Fire Hall.
Paramedic Chief Katie Kirkham has said the east end base is expected to improve response times in the city’s east end.
