Last week, DSSAB leadership attended the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference to advocate for the needs of Sault Ste. Marie.
Through a series of delegations with provincial leaders, our leadership brought forward priorities that directly impact local residents and our ability to deliver essential services:
- Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services: We asked for additional funding to support Ontario Works, and programs and strategies for women and children escaping domestic violence.
- Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing: We asked for increase affordable housing opportunities to strengthen supports for youth experiencing homelessness.
- Ministry of Education: We asked for additional licensed child care spaces to help meet the ongoing demand for local families.
These conversations are an important part of ensuring Northern perspectives are heard when provincial policies, programs and investments are being developed.
