DSSAB is proud to support bringing the internationally recognized Planet Youth prevention model to Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District.
Led by Algoma Public Health, the five-year program focuses on preventing substance use before it begins by using local data to identify the unique needs and strengths of young people in each community. The evidence-based approach emphasizes stronger family connections, school engagement, recreation opportunities, and community well-being.
The initiative is being made possible through collaboration among numerous partners, including Algoma Public Health, the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board, United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, Canadian Mental Health Association, local school boards, municipal governments across Algoma, and the Sault Ste. Marie Community Development Fund.
