The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) is launching a one-year eviction prevention initiative designed to help individuals and families remain housed before they experience homelessness. Funded through the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness’ Homelessness Reduction Innovation Fund, the project aims to prevent 42 people from becoming homeless and reduce known homelessness in the community by nearly 14 per cent by March 2027.

Working alongside community partners, housing stability workers will provide in-home supports such as landlord mediation, referrals to financial assistance programs, and targeted interventions that address common causes of eviction. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to homelessness prevention by focusing on early support, housing stability, and community collaboration before housing crises occur.
