Sault Area Hospital and District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board Paramedic Services are reporting significant improvements in ambulance offload performance following a coordinated effort to improve patient flow and return paramedics to service more quickly. Offload delays occur when paramedics must remain at the hospital until care can be transferred to Emergency Department staff, preventing ambulances from responding to new emergencies in the community.

Through a joint review of offload practices and the implementation of several workflow improvements, average offload times have dropped from 36 minutes to just over 10 minutes. In November 2025, only nine patients experienced delays longer than 30 minutes, compared to 228 patients during the same period in 2024. The improvements are helping keep ambulances available when they are needed most while supporting more efficient emergency care throughout the district.
