June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and honour the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. It is also an opportunity to learn about Indigenous perspectives and celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of Indigenous communities.
At DSSMSSAB, we recognize that understanding Indigenous history is essential to building respectful relationships, improving access to services, and advancing reconciliation. We encourage our community and staff to explore Indigenous-led resources, including the Government of Canada – Indigenous Peoples, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), and the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, to deepen understanding through education, reflection, and meaningful engagement.
