As part of its’ pandemic plan, the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services, is not conducting non-urgent in-office appointments, and is restricting building visitor access, at this time.

Attention Ontario Works Recipients

Important information relating to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

All applicants and recipients who meet the criteria for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) must apply for the CERB benefit.  Ontario Works requires that you pursue all financial resources available.

If you have applied or currently are in receipt of CERB payments, you must declare these payments to your case manager for May’s entitlement.  CERB payments may affect your present or past eligibility.

Income statements are not required to be submitted to the office but you must declare all income to your case manager.

Any questions pertaining to your eligibility or continued eligibility can be made by calling or emailing your case manager or by calling switchboard at 705-759-5266.

To apply for CERB, contact www.canada.ca for information or telephone 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041. CERB criteria can be found on the Government of Canada website or by calling 1-833-966-2099 for general information.

Reminder to Ontario Works Recipients

To assist in minimizing the spread of the Covid-19 virus and to ensure the health and safety of our staff and the people we serve, we are asking that you refrain from visiting our office. Call us at 705-759-5266 or your case manager. Please provide a reliable telephone number so that we may contact you should any circumstances change with your benefits.

Income statements are not required during the Covid-19 crisis.

If you have an emergency, call us at 705-759-5266.

May benefit cheques will all be mailed.

To ensure that you receive your benefits you must provide your bank account information. If you do not have an account please ensure you provide a correct address to receive your cheque in the mail. Cheques are not available to be picked up.

Please stay home and only go out when it is absolutely essential, wash your hands often with soap and warm running water or when that is not available use hand sanitizer, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, cover your coughs and sneezes with your arm or a tissue and dispose of the tissue immediately in the garbage, and self- monitor for symptoms. If you are sick, please stay home. If you are experiencing symptoms of the 2019 Coronavirus contact Tele-health Ontario at 1-866-797-000 or the Algoma Public Health at 705-5404 or 1-800-892-0172 ext. 5404. Please stay safe and do your part to keep the community safe.
