Reporting Income Changes

Households are required by law to report changes when they happen within thirty (30) days of the change. These changes include:

  • Change in monthly income (increase or decrease in monthly salary)
  • Change of income source (for example; changing from Employment Income to Employment Insurance Benefits, Social Assistance, WSIB, etc.)
  • Change of job.
  • Change in household composition (Someone moves in or out of the unit)

For more information contact your Tenant Service Clerk.

When to use the Income & Household Composition Review Package:

Annually:

The Annual Review Package is mailed to all households once every year. By law, the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation must review the income and assets for each person in your household. Based on this review we decide if you still qualify for a rent-geared-to-income (RGI) subsidy.

Note: Do not wait for your annual review to report changes in your income. Your RGI subsidy could be jeopardized if you do not report changes.

Mid-Year Changes:

Your rent may change more than once a year and households are required by law to report changes when they happen.  These changes include:

  • Change in monthly income (Increase or decrease in monthly salary)
  • Change of income source (For example: Changing from Employment Income to Employment Insurance Benefits, Social Assistance, WSIB, etc.)
  • Change of job
  • Change in household composition (Someone moves in or out of the unit)

For more information contact your Tenant Service Clerk.

Failure to inform the SSMHC of a change in your income may result in you losing your subsidy.

To report these changes tenants must complete the Income & Household Composition Review Package Please note that a phone call is not accepted as notification.

There are three things to remember when reporting changes:

  1. The Income and Assets Review Form:
  2. Show proof of your income and assets from all sources for each member of your household.

NOTE:   All verification will be photocopied at no charge and the originals returned to you.
