Vehicle and Motorized Scooter Rules

Your Lease states as per section:

9. Parking/Vehicle Regulations/Out Door –Use electric/Motorized Scooters

9.01   If you have the use of a parking space or driveway, you agree to follow the rules we establish for the use of this parking space in accordance with Schedule E. These rules include the requirement that only vehicles for personal use that can be legally driven on a public road with current license plates can park there. You also agree that we can change the location of your parking space (if you have one) from time to time, as long as we give you twenty (20) days prior notice of the change.

9.02   If you have the use of an Outdoor-Use Electric/ Motorized Scooter, you agree to follow the policy we establish for the use of this scooter on Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation property in accordance with Schedule E.

Vehicle Regulations

  1. A vehicle must carry up to date insurance & license plate.
  1. A parking sticker must be displayed in the lower right hand corner of the windshield.
  1. No vehicle in excess of one-ton capacity will be allowed to park in the parking lot.
  1. Only one vehicle per family will be allotted a parking space.
  1. The vehicle must be maintained in a road worthy condition.
  1. The vehicle should be locked against unauthorized entry.
  1. The office must be notified within 10 business days when the ownership of the registered vehicle is changed.
  1. Our parking lots are for residents only, unless otherwise designated. Illegally parked vehicles will be removed from the premises at the owner’s expense.
  1. Parking spaces or driveways to single detached units are not to be used for mechanical (oil changes, etc.) or body repairs on automobiles at any time.
  1. The vehicle must be moved to facilitate snow ploughing and snow removal in the winter months and in the summer months for sweeping of the parking lot. Failure to move your vehicle when contacted will result in the vehicle being removed from the premises at the owner’s expense.
  1. Failure to abide by these regulations can result in the unauthorized vehicle being removed from the premises at the owner’s expense.

Out Door-Use Electric/Motorized Scooter Regulations

The allocation of parking spots for outdoor-use electric/motorized scooters will be at the discretion of the Property Manager or his/her designate and/or where parking spots are available. All scooters designed for outdoor-use only are not permitted to be parked, stored or left in a manner that blocks a sidewalk, stairway, doorway or accessible ramp. Any tenant requesting permission to park their scooter on SSMHC property will be required to abide by the procedures listed below:

  • Out-door use electric/motorized scooters are not allowed within SSMHC buildings.
  • Exceptions will be made for medical required electric/motorized mobility devices upon submission of medical documentation to the attention of the Property Manager.
  • Scooter must be registered to the current tenant and proof be provided at the request of SSMC.
  • Only one vehicle or one scooter permitted per unit on the property unless otherwise authorized by Property Manager or designate
  • Comply with the direction given by the Property Manager or designate as to where the scooter may be parked.
  • No scooters shall be parked on sidewalks or grassy areas of the property.
  • Where parking is limited, double-up with other scooters in the parking lot in a designated parking corral specifically dedicated to scooters.
  • Be prepared to move scooter out of parking lot during winter months when ploughing of the parking lot is scheduled.
  • It is the responsibility of the tenant to ensure the battery for the scooter is maintained and charged and this shall not become the responsibility of SSMHC.
  • It is the responsibility of the tenant to supply their own protective coverings which may include a tarp or a manufactures recommended sheath.
  • It is advisable that tenants who are permitted to park their scooter on the SSMHC Property have insurance to cover liability and/or accident.
  • The parking and operation of a scooter on SSMHC property will be at the tenants risk and SSMHC will not be held liable for any damages to the scooter unless the damage has resulted from negligence on the part of SSMHC.
