Social Services Family Day Office Closure

Social Services’ offices; including Ontario Works, Housing Services and Early Years Services; will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2019 in recognition of Family Day.

Regular Social Service operations will resume on Tuesday, February 19th.

Shelter from the Cold - Extreme Cold Warning

Social Services’ would like to remind the community that local shelters, Pauline’s Place (923 Queen St. E.) and Vincent’s Place (222 Albert St. E), are open 24 hours per day for those needing to get out of the cold.  

The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen at 172 James St. is also open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for those looking for warmth during the day.

Social Services has created a video demonstrating the difficulty and reality for people experiencing poverty in Sault Ste. Marie to purchase healthy food.  The video can be viewed by clicking on the "Poverty is Not a Choice" link below ...

District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board

The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB) was created in the District Social Services Administration Board Act in 1998. The Board is made up of nine locally elected political representatives, six  from the City of Sault Ste. Marie, one from Prince Township and two from  the Sault North Planning Board Area. These areas represent the geographic jurisdiction of the Board.

Financial assistance for individuals and families in need including: Employment Support Services and Training

Child Care
Licensed Day Nursery services for Children 0-12 years of age. Financial Assistance with Child Care Fees & Additional Supports for Parents

Social Housing
Apply for Subsidized Housing, find Rental Locations and Tenant / Non-Tenant Information
